Glowstick wristbands are clothing accessories with bright glowing colors that add excitement to parties and events. Some people think they help with athletic performance by affecting energy flow in the body, and help improve balance, strength and flexibility. Interestingly, a similar argument was made about holographic wristbands. However, these latter claims have largely gone unverified scientifically, relying more on personal experience rather than anecdotal evidence. For example, a study by the Australian Skeptics concluded no significant evidence exists that glowstick bracelets possess any substantial health or performance claims beyond being a novelty item. In short, they are a decorative fun accessory rather than tools for physical performance.

Material

Glowstick wristbands have a thin flexible plastic or silicone tube that contains a chemical mix which glows through a chemical reaction. The glowing effect is called chemiluminescence. Wristbands are activated by bending or snapping them, which breaks a glass vial inside allowing hydrogen peroxide to come into contact with phenyl oxalate ester and a fluorescent dye. These wristbands are safe, waterproof, and comfortable for wear at events. Wristbands are mundane in that it is useful for their color and glowing effect, but the wristbands do not emit any special energy or frequency other than the glow they produce.

Glow sticks wristbands are so short lasting (typically just a few hours) that they are likely of little use for most events that are longer than a few hours in total. They tend to fade more quickly the colder they get and lose brightness when cracked unevenly or whenever outside factors are affecting the temperature or contact of the elements (petroleum or alcohol in whatever medium) inside the glow stick. Being consumable, they create waste and aren't reuseable for future events. And as all glow sticks rely solely on the presence of glow without any intent beyond aesthetics as it has no physiological or functional benefit, they more resemble decorative items than a functional piece of apparel. All in all, they have a visual appeal, but are considerably short in their lifespan and disposal - which would eliminate their use for longer lasting events.
